Story South Asia was an idea that was born out of Columbia’s Journalism School about a year ago focused on delivering news from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. We started out on Twitter and Facebook, and are now getting to the story part of South Asia, and are looking for local writers, videographers, bloggers, and photographers for our site – the closer you are to the ground the better. We are not looking for breaking news – the wires have that covered. We are looking for opinion-editorials, restaurant reviews, travel pieces, book reviews, columns, interviews with pertinent people from the region, and blog posts pertaining to South Asia, whatever be your politics.
We are also offering paid opportunities for local journalists in South Asia to write pieces. A profile of an 80-year-old man who has been making pani-puris outside the writer’s apartment complex for 40 years in India, and one of a woman who has spent her life as a factory worker in Bangladesh are interesting to us. Email us if you are interested, and you don’t need to be South Asian to contribute. Our goal: a place for everything South Asian.
